ORIGINS OF THE TAROT TRAINING PROGRAM

The Tarot Training Program began some fifteen years ago when I was reading tarot at Camden Lock and I was continually being asked by clients as to would I teach them. Initially I wasn’t even sure that the tarot COULD be taught - I myself had picked up a couple of decks back in the early 70s, when I had been initiated into the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids and the interest in the esoteric was still for all of us then a very new thing. I had, like most others, attempted to learn through the little explanation booklets which accompanied those decks, but to little avail. The meanings given for each of the cards were indecipherable, and the spreads shown revealed little about what was really going on in a querent’s life.

But still the mystery remained, and what seemed to be a code - uncrackable. So further into the forest I plunged, eventually piecing together a method which seemed to deliver results in terms of actual readings. It was with this skill that I was able to create a little income throughout my travels in Afghanistan, India, and Thailand and keep myself going.

But more than that, it gave me the means of interacting with people, both locals and backpackers like myself in ways which would otherwise never have been possible. People I had never met before would open up, share their worries, their fears, their hopes, and actually listen to what I had to say. I began to feel that perhaps I wasn’t such a failure after all, that maybe I could find fulfilment in my own life through taking this further. Even on the several occasions when I went off the rails and ended up in prison, I would collect enough empty cigarette packets and create a makeshift tarot deck, by doodling onto each card the basic design of each of the 78 cards. Thus armed, I would make myself useful on the wing doing readings, and earning a small fortune in tobacco in the process! I would have heavy villains - some in for serious charges, sitting down in front of me - real sceptics! - and paying me up front for readings. These guys wanted to know how they would get on in Court, or if, found guilty, what kind of time they could expect.

So the pressure was on to come up with an uplifting message, and accuracy!! One thing I found was that even tough guys like these would worry about their loved ones, and often feel tremendous guilt over what they had done. Bit by bit I kind of earned a reputation for being a latter-day wizard, someone that you could go to and have your problem solved. Or should I say resolved.

I have tended to get myself in prison a number of times, and each time I go in this is my identical process - my little niche while I wait for the great gate to swing wide open and the outside world to welcome me back into its arms!

So, the Tarot Training began, and, coupled with elements of a number of teaching certificates I have studied for, one at Surrey University (PGCEA) and the other and the City and Islington College I have managed to put together a blend which has worked well enough for me to successfully teach over 1,000 people since I began. Many of these have become professional readers as a result, some even teach the tarot, still others have gone on to become counsellors or therapists.

The 3 central elements to my teaching process though are not to be found in official teaching methods, but rather came in actually from my time spent training as an auditor with the Church of Scientology, culled from the Student Hat program and are as follows:-
  1. Never go past a misunderstood word.
We use word clearing in order to clarify meanings. Take a word such as Hierophant. OK - who can give me a definition of this word? There aren’t many tarot readers even know what it means, let alone what it represents!

  2. Teaching is based ‘on a gradient rather than mechanistically.
So, the student builds on each successive level and everything naturally seems to clarify as we go along. This is why stringent testing takes place at each and every phase of the Training- the Checkouts! No student goes on to the successive phase without a complete pass in each Checkout.

  3. Mass must be combined with theory.
There has to be a union of practice with the ideas. Otherwise everything is too ephemeral. This is why over the years have continually been drawn back to the concept of the professional tarot experience as a spiritual and growth path. By training as a professional reader, you will not just be earning money for yourself, but finding a sense of value and worth in what you will come to bring into the lives of others. You will relate to them in ways different from any you have previously known. You will find that people who you think you have known for so many years and about whom there are no secrets begin to reveal sides of their lives you would never have imagined possible. You may be surprised at what begins to reveal, you may be shocked, even, but with the Training and the continued mentoring service to support you, you will be able to handle it.
Learning the tarot is not just about memorizing the meanings of cards- more broadly- it is about developing skills and abilities which we can each of us apply in real life. Yet the professional application of this course is still the primary focus. The Tarot has given many people the opportunity to create an income flow outside of society’s repressive system of wage slavery, long hours and minimum wages. Further, we now have a system of finding our students placements with tarot line companies, both on phone and web cam, (internet).

This we have found to be very successful, as it alleviates having to have strangers come round to your house to have their cards read. Also, this way it is possible to work when you want, for as long as you want- if you want. Some days you may not want to work at all - others you may feel a burst of enthusiasm and want to get stuck in for several hours worth. Well the rate of pay is around £15 per hour and for part thereof, although bonuses are paid out as well. Each new conscript is given a pin number, and a 4 digit security number, and the chance to create a 3 minute introduction, which is played to the people phoning in. The company advertises nationally every week, and you will get calls coming in from all over the UK and Ireland. On a typical evening you could receive calls from Scotland, Wales, London, the South East and Birmingham, for example. You are free to work with whatever method or slant you wish, and readings can go on for up to two hours before they reach the automatic cut-off. After that the client can be organised to ring back if need be, or arranged for a later date.

A further element we deal with in the Training is getting away from the one-off practice of doing readings. These generally don’t help the clients as much as developing a developing relationship over time with their especial reader - someone that they can turn to and rely on for guidance and advice time and again in many different situations and with many different problems.

In the Training we show you how to establish yourself as that person’s valued guide, so that they come back to you again and again on a regular basis. This regular clientele foundation forms the bedrock of any professional reader’s bread and butter. Also, we show you how to maximise the possibilities for further work with your clients, especially if you already have knowledge of a healing art, a therapy, massage, reiki, etc.

So for the initial outlay of £500 you can very swiftly recoup your investment, earning on average around £200-300 per week doing online readings. If you are unable to afford this all at once, please speak to us regarding our easy payment facility in which the cost is spread over 10 months

Running parallel to the personalised Tarot Training program are the activities of the London Tarot Training Centre, which is now more of a hub for tarot activities and learning encounters. Initially we are meeting one evening every month but as things pick up we are planning ahead for weekend Encounter groups, in which the tarot will be used to explore feelings such as anger, shame, fear and love. These will be starting in London and some may even be residential, outside London.

The Professional Tarot Trainers Program is also in the process of development and should be with us and available later into the summer. Application is by invitation only and each candidate is subject to stringent criteria and continued assessment.

Those accepted will be assigned teaching responsibilities in the rapidly expanding Program which we expect to go international later this year. Franchises for the new centres will be issued at the discretion of the LTTCs leadership.

THE TAROT TRAINING PROGRAM

This is a personalised training programme, spread over 2-3 weeks and arranged into either 10 one-hour sessions, or 5 2-hour sessions, placed in the diary at hours to suit.

The purpose is to enhance readership skills and initiative in the tarot practice, not in isolation but as a fulcrum for the rest of the life state as well.

Emphasis is given to communication skills, development of telepathy, card linkages, with the best elements from healing, soul retrieval, and white magic.

The outline of the course is that in between the tutorials there is a certain body of casework to be done in the student’s own individual time, including writing up of notes and practicing.

At the completion of the course the successful students are assigned as professional tarot readers with an online tarot reading company, where the pay scale is around £15 per hour, part or full-time.

It is an ideal entry point into the sphere of professional readership for those either new to the tarot or with a previous study or background but who have yet to take the purposeful step of entry into the realm of professionalism.
It is also an ideal occupation for working from home, for those with children, or who just wish to ‘keep their hand in’ and make available to the public their gifts.

At the commencement of the course, the Founder, Terry Donaldson, makes a dialogue in which the major and minor arcane are separated and laid out, and the interdependencies between the different subsets are looked at. The cards as a whole are ‘oiled’, namely, consecrated with special psychically sealing oils so that the cards remain true to their actual owners.

The five 2 hour sessions run as follows:-

  1.     Initiation ceremony- oiling of the cards, dialogue on major and minor arcane, basic meanings of the suit of coins/pentacles. Introduction to the Code of Ethics, membership criteria, and rules pertaining to student status. Planning of itinerary, and linking with your ‘twin’- your out of hours buddy, also a tarot student, on-course, currently, or previously. Introduction to the workbook, used for collecting and collating personal experiences and linkages with the tarot deck. Psychic methods of linking, and downloading from the collective mind, opening and closing down, and basics of telepathy. Checkout on all these.

  2.   The suits of swords, wands, and cups. Checkout on these suits. Meanings of the Major Arcana, followed by checkout. Full checkout on all 78 cards.
Card reversals - card reversals show an excessive amount, an insufficient quantity, or a delay in something coming into being. We run through the entire deck giving all reversals. Full checkout to completion. Initial spreads - Celtic Cross, Wheel, Triadic; how and why each spread reveals different attributes and insights into a client’s life.

     3.   Creation of a matrix- the wheel of Overview. The difference between passive readership and active interventionist readings. How the matrix establishes a method of continued intervention into the client’s future, and creates what is known as a ‘regular’ client. Methods of enhancing your readership skills. How to build a valued client base. How to get the client to stay in touch and return for necessary follow-up readings, or even additional services, such as hypnotherapy, reiki, herbalism, etc.

All activities to dovetail into a professional package - a range of services which build the sphere of possible client investment. How to do online readings- by phone, by webcam.

Those wishing to proceed following their successful examination will be issued with free webcams upon enlisting in the company. Outline of how the Tarot Line works – hours, rates, payments, commitments, etc. Whether the graduate wishes to enlist and on what basis - i.e. part or full time.
     4.     Working with varying decks - modern tarot, traditional, medieval decks, the newly designed Jim Kirwan deck – not publicly available. Checking of the tarot worksheets, making sure all the “T”s are crossed and “I”s are dotted. Maintaining a reading for up to one hour, two hours, to get full in depth treatment expected of a professional reading. Elements of energy working = casting circles of light, psychic and physical healing, Creating spheres of positive influence around a client. Healing of the past. Projecting of blessings into the future. Making certain things happen. How to bring greater romance into a client’s life/ prosperity, protection. Bringing back loved ones.

  5.   The examination. Here the students find that the examination is for a number of tarot students all completing on the same night, and for this an informal social event is organized, to which the students are encouraged to bring friends and contacts to come and put the new students to the test by having their cards read for free. Each trainee reads for approximately six people in a relaxed setting where they have the opportunity to ‘put it all together’ and see how the readership experience really comes to life. Certificates are presented, and those interested in proceeding onto professional activities are introduced to the Tarot Line Company, and enlisted as active practitioners.

All training is carried out in Hornsey, London.

Cost of the course s £500 payable in advance.

If you have difficulty paying this all at once, please contact us about our Easy Payment method.
